This week, Pokémon GO players have reported receiving updates to the mobile game's least popular feature - EX Raid battles with the legendary Mewtwo. However, when a large number of these battles appeared to be taking place in more remote locations - rather than the accessible locales used previously - something started to seem out of place.
Well, we were all right to pop on our suspicious hats because developer Niantic has revealed the updates were in fact a bug. “With the latest batch of EX Raid Battle invites, we implemented a few changes to improve Trainer and Gym selection,” commented the developer in a recent blog update. “Unfortunately, a bug was introduced when these changes were made, and, as a result, some Trainers were invited to participate in an EX Raid Battle at a Gym they may not have visited in several months.”
Turns out these roll of changes was actually a premature glimpse into some actual updates Niantic is planning to bring to the game in the near future, including: “First, we’ve made changes to the ways Gyms are selected,” revealed Niantic in the same post. “While EX Raid Battles will continue to take place in parks and at sponsored locations, the number of Gyms that meet the necessary criteria for an EX Raid Battle will increase. Additionally, the average number of Trainers invited per Gym will also rise, as we’ve made a few tweaks to the way they are selected.”
Are you still playing Pokémon GO? Are these changes enough to bring you back if you haven't? Let us know...

Oh look, a Pokemon Go article. And not a care was given (woohoo, first first! Yes, it's pathetic, and I'm not ashamed.)
Edit: Sorry, had to do it! Last chance I got at a first, someone beat me by 2 seconds. It's like Achievements. It means absolutely nothing and demonstrates no accomplishment, but it's somehow a thrill all the same.
Still is Pokemon Go still a thing? The hype train came and went as fast as the Wii. I'm sure it still has a profitable player base, but it's amazing how it went from "we can't escape hearing about it" to the sound of crickets when an article is posted on it.
I saw some speculations that this time it could be Mew as well
Niantic used confusion.
it's was super effective!
sorry... i had too. XD
I still play PoGo but I have no interest in Raids.
Gotta force people to do raid battles somehow as a 2nd job. Really glad I dropped this awful game. Was good until they got greedy with raid battles.
People would still be palying pokemon go if they had friend to friend battles implemented. Oh well
@NEStalgia Yeap, Pokemon Go is still a thing?
It's really annoying how Niantic doesn't seem to be offering EX Raid battles in parks in my city's core neighbourhoods. The only people that seem to get invites are people who visit parks way out in the suburbs. I was able to get out to the far south end suburb in my city for a Kyogre raid which led to me getting a Mewtwo EX Raid pass at the same park one week later. But for the most part, I live in the city core, near downtown. And usually I raid down there as it's just easier to get. Really annoyed how Niantic doesn't seem to offer any EX Raids in these core neighbourhood parks and instead focus on the inconvenient suburban parks.
@DarthFoxMcCloud That's weird. Early on the problem was ONLY the cities got any action and thus Go never even existed in the burbs for the most part.
@NEStalgia That's still somewhat of a problem. Aside from some rare spawns, cities have most activity by far. Still, the game is very much alive to the point that it's rare to have even a smaller town where there's no active group of players to be found.
Maybe the question should be whether articles like these are newsworthy for a Nintendo site. Well, technically Nintendo has a share in PoGo which is still a significant amount of income for them.
Ah screw it haha, Pokémon Go is good for Nintendo and so are news articles on it's updates to Nintendo fans!
@Slaz Yeah it's definitely relevent to Nintendo sites....Pokemon is inextricably tied to Nintendo, and it affects upcoming Pokemon Switch in one way or another I'm certain! We all know it has to tie into Go one way or another....even if just borrowing concepts from it.
@NEStalgia True that. I always believed the lack of any connectivity between Go and Sun/Moon was a missed opportunity from the rather conservative Pokémon Company. It would’ve been nice to create one Trainer character and neatly switch between virtual Alola on 3DS and the real world on your phone. That would’ve convinced at least more ‘trendhoppers’ from the Go hype into the series.
At some point they were definitely considering this, as early PoGo avatars were modeled after the Omega Ruby/Sapphire models, which were the latest games back then. And Sun/Moon had ‘Pokémon GO’ programmed in as possible location data for obtained Pokémon.
They may (or may not) do this right with that Harry Potter thing, where there’s a traditional game ‘Hogwarts Mysteries’ that lets people create a character and get into the HP world, adventuring and learning spells, etc. Then you’d take that character to Niantic’s ‘Wizards Unite’ and put your wizarding skills in practice in the real world.
Pokemon go is still a thing?
@NF6429 Yeah so you can tap the screen at each other. Pass.
