XSEED Games will publish a physical release for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero in North America, packaged with an exclusive 20-song soundtrack.
The publisher announced this afternoon that they will be bringing indie developer WayForward’s popular Metroidvania title to Wii U, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita later this year. XSEED has sweetened the deal for fans interested in the retail version, too.
“The physical version will be a special ‘Risky Beats’ release,” XSEED Tweeted today, “packaged with a musical selections CD of 20 songs from the game for $29.99!”
WayForward will still handle publishing duties for the digital version of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero on Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Steam.
Last month, WayForward discussed their plans to approach publishers about releasing the game physically. With XSEED Games’ involvement, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will mark the series’ first retail release in North America since the original title, Shantae, released on Game Boy Color in 2002.
Important to note is that Kickstarter backers will need to double-dip for the physical release of the game, as the campaign’s reward specifically included the digital version.
“Please understand that WayForward is not the distributor of the physical versions, so we can’t offer backers any boxed copies,” WayForward noted in a May Kickstarter update.
In addition, XSEED Games is publishing Exile’s End, a Metroidvania title by developer Magnetic Realms, set for a digital release on the Wii U eShop, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita “in the coming months.”
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero and Exile’s End will be at this year’s E3 2016 event in Los Angeles from June 14-16.
Previously published games from XSEED Games include those from the Corpse Party, Rune Factory, and Senran Kagura series.
