The SNES classic Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars arrives on the Wii U Virtual Console in Europe this Thursday along with four others.
As part of the round-up for this week’s eShop downloads, fan favorite title Super Mario RPG: Legend of The Seven Stars leads the Virtual Console on Thursday. Developed by Square in 1996 and lauded as a SNES classic, many feel the game laid the framework for the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series.
With its unique art style, memorable gameplay, and timeless characters, long-time fans have clamored for some sort of a revival, and Super Mario RPG’s re-release could be that one step toward a future sequel.
In fact, any mention of Super Mario RPG by Nintendo had been rare prior to last week, when a Mii Fighter Costume pack for the game’s popular character, Geno, released for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. While many wanted him added to the playable character roster, the recognition as an outfit came as a surprise.
Nintendo has yet to announce Super Mario RPG for North America; The game was previously released on the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console in August 2015. We’ll be sure to keep you updated, however.
