Global Wii U hardware sales have topped 12 million units through December 2015, Nintendo’s latest Consolidated Financial Highlights report reveals.
From April 1 to December 31, 2015, Wii U shifted 3.06 million units across all regions with roughly 48 percent of total sales coming from The Americas — up 30,000 units during the same period last year. Nintendo expects to sell an additional 340,000 systems by March 31, 2016 to close out its current fiscal year.
Wii U hardware sales were assisted by a strong software lineup consisting of titles like Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, which released in May 2015 and September 2015, respectively. Other games such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Star Fox Zero will launch in March 2016 and April 2016, respectively, with The Legend of Zelda on Wii U still planned for later this year.
Global Nintendo 3DS hardware sales have reached nearly 58 million units through December 2015. From April 1 to December 31, 2015, 5.88 million units were sold across all regions — down 1.2 million units from the same period last year. Figures include sales for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS.
In addition, Nintendo reported combined global amiibo sales through December 2015 have surpassed 40 million units across both formats; traditional figure-type amiibo have sold approximately 20.5 million units while card-type amiibo have sold approximately 21.5 million units.
