Starting today, fans in the West can download EarthBound Beginnings, known as Mother in Japan, from the Wii U Virtual Console service, Nintendo announced.
During this evening’s Nintendo World Championships 2015 pre-show, EarthBound creator Shigesato Itoi revealed to fans that EarthBound Beginnings will be released on the Wii U Virtual Console. The occasion marks more than 25 years of the series and 20 years of the game’s sequel, EarthBound, on the Super NES.
Mother was released exclusively in Japan in 1989 on the Family Computer, or Famicom. It’s an RPG with a quirky storyline, unique gameplay elements, and a host of lively characters. Be sure to watch the game’s announcement trailer below.
