Don’t Expect To See Super Smash Bros. Wii U Until The Holiday Season

Super Smash Bros (WIi U)

Nintendo announces early happy holidays for Super Smash Bros. fans.

Thanks to a keen-eyed reader, a smashing new tidbit of information has been discovered from within Nintendo’s official third quarter results briefing documentation. In it, legendary game designer and producer — and the company’s senior managing director — Shigeru Miyamoto reveals that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is expected to be released “by the year’s end.”

Shigeru Miyamoto:

With Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze being released in just a few short weeks and Mario Kart 8 being recently confirmed for a May 2014 release window, it seems Nintendo is spreading out their heavy hitters for Wii U.

Thanks to Cheesemeister for spotting and translating the detail.

  1. Releasing Super Smash Bros. at that time makes sense to me. Hopefully, Nintendo will have the online aspect of things ironed out so there’s no repeat of last holiday season when the eShop was frozen for a while. But I could see many people saving up for a Wii U and Super Smash Bros. I’m sure it will get some time in this year’s Nintendo’s E3 presentation, which I expect to be mostly about the Wii U.

Even though I’m horrible at fighting games and haven’t really played a Smash Bros. game since the N64, I’m excited to play Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS. Who knows, maybe by then I’ll have a Wii U? XD
