Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Delayed to 2018

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a spiritual successor to the Castlevania series, has been delayed to 2018 due to needing more development.

“Things have been progressing with development for Bloodstained, but between our current production set-up and release deadline, I’ve realized that at this rate the game may not end up meeting my quality standards,” said Koji Igarashi earlier today in a Kickstarter development update video, seen below.

The former Castlevania series producer “is in the process of securing new developers” in hopes of keeping the game on track and in line with his initial expectations.

“However, I’d like to emphasize that I made this decision to absolutely guarantee the game is done right the first time,” Igarashi further explained. “The last thing I want to do is keep our [Kickstarter] backers waiting, but after receiving such incredible support, I feel responsible for delivering the best product I possibly can.”

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was originally planned to launch in March 2017. However, Igarashi and team now plan to have the game finalized by “the first half of 2018.”

Thanks to fans’ generous contributions on Kickstarter, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is expected to receive features such as a Boss Revenge Mode, Roguelike Dungeon, and an asynchronous online multiplayer mode. In addition, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita owners can expect to see a Bloodstained prequel mini-game, a port from the console version of the prequel mini-game, arrive at some point.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has become one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns in history, amassing more than $5.5 million dollars contributed by nearly 69,000 interested fans. The game is now planned to launch by June 30, 2018 on Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Mac, Linux, and Windows PC.
