The Pokémon Company is trying to figure out how Pokémon GO can connect with the next installment in the main series of Pokémon games.
Pokémon GO, a new mobile game announced earlier today for Android and iOS, may offer fans an experience beyond the smartphone. According GAME FREAK director of Pokémon games Junichi Masuda, ideas to integrate Pokémon GO and the next title in the main Pokémon series of video games are already floating around.
“I’m hard at work alongside Niantic to bring out the untapped possibilities of Pokémon, and in order to do so, we’re not limiting ourselves to adhering to the traditional conventions of Pokémon,” Masuda said during a press conference today. “Of course, at the same time, I’m also thinking up ways that this project might connect with the next entry in the main series Pokémon games.”
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Pokémon, and Masuda wants that to be a special time. “It’s going to be a very meaningful year for me, and I am really excited to be able to participate in this project, Masuda said. “I hope everyone will also be excited for Pokémon GO.”
Last month, The Pokémon Company’s director of consumer marketing said the future of the Pokémon series has something to do with “flowers.” The next main series Pokémon game may be for Nintendo’s next home console, codenamed NX, Wii U, or Nintendo 3DS.
