SEGA Announces Project Sonic 2017 for Nintendo NX

The Blue Blur’s next main series game, codenamed Project Sonic 2017, will arrive on Nintendo NX and other consoles in 2017, SEGA announced.

Sonic Team, the studio responsible for Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, will develop the next title in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Project Sonic 2017 will receive more details, along with its official title, at a later date. It is expected to launch on Nintendo NX, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in holiday 2017.

“Today brought thousands of fans together from all over the world to get a look at all the facets of our beloved Sonic the Hedgehog from his foundation in video games to music, TV, mobile, toys, fashion and beyond,” said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer of Sonic Pillar and SVP of SEGA of America.” This is only the beginning for Sonic and we’re happy our fans were here to celebrate this exciting new direction.”

In addition, SEGA revealed Sonic Mania, a retro-styled 2D platformer developed by SEGA of America in collaboration with PagodaWest Games along with Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley. It is planned to launch digitally on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in spring 2017.
