Runner3 Continues BIT.TRIP Series in 2017

Indie developer Choice Provisions (formerly Gaijin Games) is bringing the next title in their BIT.TRIP series, Runner3, to platforms in 2017.

“We are super excited to be back in the company of CommanderVideo and couldn’t be happier to announce, here and now, that in 2017, the Rhythm Alien will be running his way back into your lives,” the developer recently announced on the game’s new website. “Runner3 will bring you more of what you loved in Runner2, along with some new features that will melt your Melchkins.”

Choice Provisions promises to reveal more information related to the game’s intended video game platforms in the near future. Fans familiar with the long-running BIT.TRIP series already know Choice has previously released numerous titles across Nintendo platforms such as WiiWare, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and, most recently, Wii U.

“Our hope for Runner3 is the same as our hope was for Runner2: to challenge ourselves to make a game that outdoes its predecessor in every possible way,” Choice Provisions noted on their website. “It’s a lofty goal, but we plan to do whatever it takes to make it happen.”

Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, released on the Wii U eShop in 2013, received a dose of DLC called Good Friends Character Pack. The add-on content introduced new playable characters such as Spelunky Guy (from Spelunky), Dr. Fetus (from Super Meat Boy), and Invisible CommanderVideo.

The long-time voice of Mario, Charles Martinet, will return to the series to provide fans with his signature voice acting; in Runner2, Martinet voiced humorous cutscenes and quirky sounds from the game’s navigation menu.

To celebrate the announcement of Runner3, both RUNNER and Runner2 are discounted by 50 percent on Wii U, Steam, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 4. The sale ends on October 2, 2016.

A Runner3 teaser trailer, below, offers a cryptic first look for the game. Keen eyes will notice lightning fast rainbow flashes and even CommanderVideo himself. Take a look.
