Nintendo is developing their new dedicated video game platform, codenamed “NX,” which will offer a brand-new concept.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed Nintendo is currently working on their next hardware platform. Under its codename, NX will offer an innovative new experience for gamers.

NX, along with smart devices, PCs, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, will work together with a new membership service developed by Nintendo and DeNA. The new service will be one of the “core elements” NX offers.

“Unlike the Club Nintendo membership service that Nintendo has been operating, the new membership service will include multiple devices and create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses,” Mr. Iwata said.

The codename NX news comes from the same press conference held earlier today where Nintendo announced its alliance with Japanese mobile company DeNA, to launch a global game business on smart devices.

Speculation aside, news of NX could lend credence to Nintendo Fusion — a rumor that surfaced in January 2014 about Nintendo’s plans to develop a hybrid-type video game system.

More details on NX will be shared next year.

  1. Something like this was guessed at a few weeks/months ago as they were announcing the closure of Club Nintendo. It was assumed that something would be replacing it, and a lot hopped it would be a proper Account System. Let’s hope this is it!

  2. For once, I hope that this new “NX” system isn’t a new next-gen console. I hope it will be a side project that will work alongside the Wii U and 3DS, instead of outright replacing the Wii U. I’m not made of money, Nintendo.

  3. Nintendo, for your next console allow more mature 3-Party games and make your own 1st person shooting franchise. Xbox has Halo, PlayStation had Killzone, Nintendo? Also please stick with the Wii U Pro Contoller and keep making improvements on it. Just use one controller and keep that.

      • It’s simple, Xbox has Halo, PlayStation has Killzone. Both serjes are rated M, so Nintendo should then turn Metroid into a Mature rated series. Don’t get me wrong, I love their games like Mario, Zelda, etc. But it would be nice to the Legend of Zelda series to come out with some new games that are more mature like Twilight Princess.
