Nintendo is developing their new dedicated video game platform, codenamed “NX,” which will offer a brand-new concept.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed Nintendo is currently working on their next hardware platform. Under its codename, NX will offer an innovative new experience for gamers.
NX, along with smart devices, PCs, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, will work together with a new membership service developed by Nintendo and DeNA. The new service will be one of the “core elements” NX offers.
“Unlike the Club Nintendo membership service that Nintendo has been operating, the new membership service will include multiple devices and create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses,” Mr. Iwata said.
The codename NX news comes from the same press conference held earlier today where Nintendo announced its alliance with Japanese mobile company DeNA, to launch a global game business on smart devices.
Speculation aside, news of NX could lend credence to Nintendo Fusion — a rumor that surfaced in January 2014 about Nintendo’s plans to develop a hybrid-type video game system.
More details on NX will be shared next year.
