Nintendo will release The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes on Nintendo 3DS in North America on October 23.
The new Zelda game, which was revealed at E3 in June, is a cooperative multiplayer installment in the series. Up to three players can team up, each controlling a different Link, to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes supports local multiplayer with only one game card or online multiplayer with a wireless Internet connection. Voice chat will not be available when playing online with friends; instead, players can make use of visual gestures activated by tapping the touch screen.
A single player mode is also available, with paper doll Links replacing the second and third playable characters.
Nintendo is hoping Tri Force Heroes will appeal to a wider audience than past Zelda titles, and are including a fashion element — including the chance to have Link don a princess dress — to attract younger females to the game. Different clothes also grant the player with unique abilities.
Nintendo is not planning amiibo support for the game.
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes will release in Europe on the same day and in Australia and New Zealand on October 24. The game is planned to release in Japan later this year as well.
A Wii U installment in the Zelda series is also in the works, but that project, which was scheduled to release this year, has been delayed.
