The newest campaign in Shovel Knight, Specter of Torment, is nearing the completion of development and is planned to arrive in spring 2017.
Yacht Club Games’ massively successful retro-styled platformer is soon to receive another free helping of content. This time, players will be able to traverse stages as the shadowy Specter Knight himself — slashing, dash slashing, and wall climbing. He’ll make use of potions as well.
“Specter Knight’s adventure is a huge game, so be sure to stay tuned for any updates,” Yacht Club Games announced earlier today. “We can’t wait to tell you more about it, but in the meantime … have fun investigating every detail of the title logo and make sure to check out Specter Knight’s abilities!”
Specter of Torment will be available across all platforms including Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Windows, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
A previous campaign called Plague of Shadows released in September 2015, also via free software update. It introduced the playable character Plague Knight along with new levels, secret areas, and objectives.
In addition to the Specter of Torment content, Yacht Club Games is working on another campaign called King Knight; however, no release date information has been announced.
Last year Yacht Club Games announced an amiibo designed after Shovel Knight himself, the game’s main protagonist and shovel-wielding hero. It would be interesting to see the studio also release figures for Plague Knight or Specter Knight in the future.
