An Animal Crossing Mini Direct will introduce a free software update for Animal Crossing: New Leaf this November, adding support for amiibo.
New Leaf may be nearing four years old, but Nintendo is ready to turn over a “new leaf” for the popular simulation hit on Nintendo 3DS. On November 2, a worldwide Animal Crossing Mini Direct will be broadcast. The exact time still unknown, however.
“[The new update] will expand your town’s horizons by adding in amiibo functionality and other new features,” said Samantha Robertson, a localization producer for Nintendo of America. “Of course, the Animal Crossing series amiibo figures and amiibo cards will be compatible, but so will select figures from other series’ as well.”
In addition, the next series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards will make their way to retailers on Friday, December 2. A total of 50 cards will feature all-new villagers not yet seen in New Leaf.
The new update can be downloaded from Nintendo eShop following the Mini Direct on Wednesday, November 2. Alternatively, a new packaged version of the game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo!, will include the amiibo update and one amiibo card from the new series.
On a separate but related note, fresh information about the new Animal Crossing smart device game will still be shared sometime later this year. However, it is still unclear when.
Lastly, Nintendo shared a new video during today’s Nintendo 3DS Direct called “Have Fun with Animal Crossing amiibo!” Feel free to watch it below.
