Publisher VIZ Media will bring Nintendo Power’s light-hearted Super Mario Adventures comic to life as a full-color graphic novel this fall.
Inspired by SNES classic Super Mario World, Super Mario Adventures was originally serialized in Nintendo Power magazine starting with the January 1992 issue (Volume 32). The final episode was printed in the December 1992 issue (Volume 43), and a bonus installment, “Mario vs. Wario,” was printed in the January 1993 issue (Volume 44).
This 13-episode cartoony adventure was written by Kentaro Takekuma and illustrated by Charlie Nozawa.
For those unfamiliar with the comic, here’s a description:
“The peril-plagued Princess Toadstool is kidnapped by the diabolical deadbeat Bowser but super plumbers Mario and Luigi hatch a plan with their new friend Yoshi to rescue her. Are the Super Mario Bros’ plans a pipe dream? Can they stop the Koopa King before he forces the Princess to be his bride?!”
VIZ will combine each Super Mario Adventures episode to publish a graphic novel, in full-color, on October 12. Manga and toys website Things From Another World is currently accepting pre-orders for the reprinted comic for $10.49.
Alternatively, fans can view the entire comic series straight from their web browser by visiting the Nintendo Power magazine archive — thanks to the recent efforts of archivists.
