Official Mimikyu's Song Tells a Sad, Somber Story

Pokémon Sun & Moon’s Mimikyu may be pint-sized and cute, but the official “Mimikyu’s Song” reveals a creature who is quite sad and lonely.

The Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel published the melody on Thursday. Nintendo News translated the song’s included lyrics, below, with partial assistance from YouTube user Tobias.

Following the release of “Mimikyu’s Song,” fans have come to adore Mimikyu even more. One person who commented on Tobias’s translated YouTube video said, “New rule: Whenever you see a Mimikyu, you have to catch it. No exceptions.” Another person said, “I don’t care if [Mimikyu] has base stats of 5 all around, it’s going on my team.”

If you’re into Japanese Pokémon songs, be sure to check out the official “I Love Magikarp” song from July.

Mimikyu’s Song Lyrics Translated

I’m not Pikachu, I’m Mimikyu
I get lonely easily
The sun, the sun, I’m kind of afraid
But I love dark places

I want to be on good terms with everyone
that’s why I’m imitating Pikachu
This costume resembles Pikachu, right?
I’ve hand-crafted it. Pretty cool, huh?
To remove it … absolutely not
You could be cursed if you saw what was underneath

I’m not Pikachu, I’m Mimikyu
I’m not a ghost, I’m Mimikyu

With a big claw, I can protect you
With a thunderbolt, I can be useful in many ways
I’m a Pokémon that can be relied upon
Please let me be your friend

I’m not Pikachu, I’m Mimikyu
We can become friends, I’m Mimikyu
I’m not Pikachu, I’m Mimikyu
I get lonely easily, I’m Mimikyu

I’m not Pikachu, I’m Mimikyu
I’m not a ghost, I’m Mimikyu
I’m not Pikachu, I’m Mimikyu
We can become friends, I’m Mimikyu
