A multitude of Nintendo games are currently being featured in Awesome Games Done Quick, a week-long charity event streaming on Twitch where some of the world’s best speedrunners play for a global audience and a great cause.
Games Done Quick is a bi-annual charity gaming marathon that runs 24 hours per day from January 3 to January 10 and during the beginning of July. Each game of the seven-day marathon is speedrun by volunteers of the gaming community working to raise donations for the Prevent Cancer Foundation through worldwide viewership.
Over 4,500 donations have been made since the start of the event yesterday, totaling $187,000 raised toward cancer research.
Upcoming Nintendo titles being played throughout the week include classics such as Metroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, and Paper Mario and newer games like Super Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8. Details for each game featured, as well as their players and categories, are listed on the event’s complete schedule.
Archived streams of each day’s action can be found at the official Games Done Quick Twitch page the day after they are broadcast. Yesterday, several Nintendo favorites such as Splatoon, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and Super Mario 64 were played, so make sure to check out the archives if interested.
