DIC Entertainment’s 1990 The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 animated television cartoon series is now available to purchase on Steam.
Windows, Mac, and Linux users can watch, via online streaming, the series’ 13 episodes in their original 640×480 resolution format. Those interested can purchase episodes individually or a complete bundle at a discounted rate.
From September 8, 1990 to December 1, 1990, U.S. TV networks — including NBC and PAX Network — broadcast The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 every Saturday. Several other networks around the world also aired TAoSMB3 during the same time in countries such as Australia, Ireland, Romania, and the UK.
The weekly series’ 13 episodes were split into two shorter 15-minute episodes. Interestingly, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 was “the only animated Mario series to use episode title cards and also the only one to open with a narration instead of a theme song,” according to Wikipedia.
A description of the TV series, as seen on its Steam page, reads:
“Another set of adventures starring the now-classic kids’ heroes, the Super Mario Bros. This time Koopa has escaped from a Banishment Zone to battle the Super Mario Bros. And he has a powerful new weapon, the Koopa Kids — Koopa’s bratty, yet lovable, offspring! It’s the irrepressible Mario Bros. versus wild kids gone amuck in outrageous comedy adventures.”
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 on Steam is distributed by Cinedigm and produced by Cookie Jar. To avoid any confusion, DIC was acquired by and merged into Cookie Jar Entertainment in July 2008.
